The congress taking place on 8th February will follow the central theme of "safekeeping cultural heritage”, regarding in particular the contradictions arising from the museal function, new here, and the conservation demands and requirements for historical monuments.
The Museum Catharijneconvent has a clear picture of what it wants to project and to this end has developed an entirely new museum concept, right down to the refurbishment of the museum itself. But how can we conciliate the
choice of new colours with the protection of historical monuments? And how do we compromise the construction of
an open and transparent building whilst respecting the authorised glass surface area?
The presentation is called "Museum Catharijneconvent: a complete history” and will provide a behind the scenes view of the refurbishment and transformation of the building.
The congress is for staff from other museums, historical monument conservation organisations and architecture students.
