The INTERREG IIIB NWE-ENO programme takes part in the construction of Europe by allowing innovative and truly transnational projects to take off thanks to the co-financing of ERDF funds over the period of 2000-2006. This community initiative programme supports the financing of projects that strive for a more sustainable development of North West Europe.

North-western Europe can be considered among the most dynamic and prosperous regions of the European union. However, various constraints weigh heavily on its population and regional economies to the extent that its competitiveness is threatened.
In order to preserve and improve North-western Europe's appeal, the European Union, within the framework of the "Interreg IIIB NWE" programme, finances forward looking projects dealing with city and regional planning. The Converting Sacred Spaces project lies within the scope of the 4.2 priority which aims at protecting and developing European cultural heritage.
