Each of the five member states will contribute to the Converting Sacred Spaces programme by hosting a conference which addresses one theme in the management of a 'sacred place'.

The UK Congress, 'Let This Place be Called… a Thousand Years of Sacred Space' was held at Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal (FASR) on 19th July 2006. The UK Congress explored the ways in which the policies and actions identified in Conservation Plans can be turned into projects or physical interventions through Management Plans. During the morning speakers from English Heritage and the National Trust presented the following papers: 'The FASR World Heritage Site Mnaagement Plan'; 'Economic Sustainability: generating the funds needed to implement the FASR World Heritage Site Management Plan'; 'The Fountains Mill Conservation Project'; 'The Stonehenge World Heritage Site Management Plan'. In the afternoon workshops enabled the delegates to explore the ideas raised in the morning and relate them to their own projects.

Seventy delegates from the five member states attended the UK Congress, including representatives from the National Trust, English Heritage, members of the FASR World Heritage Site consultative committee and other agencies who have a relationship with the FASR estate.

At the end of the day delegates were able to visit the Converting Sacred Spaces Exhibition that is on display in Fountains Hall and Mill until 24th September 2006.
