| | Foigny Abbey The pilot actions led at Foigny and Bohéries should allow the reception of school groups to be tried out, by making these two sites the place for innovative activities aimed at this particular audience. The objective is to make the young audience aware both of the functionality and the spirituality of the site whilst following the main focus that is water. The latter is in fact, notably for the Cistercians and the Prémontrés, the major factor at the origin of the implantation of religious sites. The actions carried out at the Foigny and Bohéries sites will let the importance of these elements be understood, by making the most of the complementarity of the sites. At Bohéries, the hydraulic network is partly preserved and visible in the ancient enclosure of the abbey; it corresponds well with the ancient plan of the abbey and research will allow the knowledge of the ancient network to be completed. At Foigny, the abbey windmill is still working, today thanks to a turbine; certain elements (bridge pier, etc.) are medieval. The existing structures are an excellent base for technical explanations aimed in particular at school groups. The two sites, perfectly complementary, are particularly adapted to a joint action, favouring the study of reproducibility: - at Foigny, the rehabilitation of an ancient building and its conversion into a reception room should allow school groups to be welcomed for the monks to explain the use of water to them. - at Bohéries, the site has a signposted tour on the outside, with one of the abbey rooms having been brought up to the required standards (for establishments receiving the general public). Once finished, these two reception sites will be integrated into the inter-regional educational route; we are currently studying the possibility of making the two sites appear together in the heritage class programme proposed by the Schools Inspectorate and the Centre National de Documentation Pédagogique (National teacher's resource centre). |
